Another tragic loss to the transgender community. On 5 January 2015, she jumped off the Bosphorus Bridge shortly following a suicide note/video she posted on Facebook.
“I could not. I could not because people did not allow me. I could not work. I wanted to do something [worthwhile] but I could not. They interfered with me a lot. They victimized me a lot. I leave everyone to their own Allah.” - Eylül Cansın
Rest in power, Eylül.
Please, everyone, cry for Eylül as much as we did for Leelah. Do not ignore this. We are losing too many of our sisters to suicide because of transmisogyny.
Spread this like we did for Leelah. Make it clear to the world that the discrimination against transwomen and their suffering is not an anomaly—it is the result of a system that is killing women in our communities. Let’s protect all our sisters.
