hey yall its me the Art Mom™ to help you shade pretty
rule 1: DO NOT SHADE WITH BLACK. EVER. IT NEVER LOOKS GOOD.
red- shade with a slightly darker shade of purple
orange- slightly darker and more saturated shade of red
yellow- i think like..a peach could work but make it a really light peach
green- shade with darker and less saturated shade of blue or teal
blue- shade with purple
purple- a shade thats darker than the purple you’re using and maybe a little pink (MAYBE blue)
pink- darker shade of red
white- a really light lavender or blue..or i guess any really light colour??
black- okay listen dont use pure black to colour anything unless you want to leave it with flat colours because you cant really shade black lol
grey- a slightly darker shade of purple or blue (less saturated)
brown- slightly darker and less saturated shade of purple or red
aaaaand thats all i got lol. let me know if there is anything i should add to this list!!
^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ THIS!!!! ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
Coincidentally, I already use these exact techniques. I think these shades really help make colors pop!
As a bonus, I always stray away from coloring with any pure blacks or greys. Heavily desaturated blues, teals, and browns do the job better, IMO.
Save the color black for outlines if you want a real “comic” look. Stay away from coloring with black or grey until you draw something that’s 100% absent of light (black) or 100% absent of color (grey). When you finally use those colors for their intended themes, they’ll have a greater effect.
Bad thing: *happens* Me: Well, I guess it's time to find a 100k fanfiction and keep reading till I lose all sense of reality and forget about all my problems and instead focus on the More Important Problems of imaginary people.
me when i haven't thought about harry potter for 3 minutes: i am forgetting my roots...my background...everything that made me who i am..i am failing you harry james potter. i'm the weak one..and i'll never know love or friendship
6 years later and avatar (the james cameron movie) is still completely incomprehensible to me. like you’ve got the highest grossing film in recent history and no one actually enjoyed it beyond “eh. it was okay”
Avatar is such a weird anomaly. It’s the highest grossing film EVER (not adjusting for inflation) by a huge margin and yet it left virtually no footprint on popular culture. It had its 15 minutes of fame to the tune of $2.7 billion dollars worldwide, and within a few years it’s like no one remembers it even existed. You only ever really see it mentioned these days in the context of its record-breaking box office.
I think
that when you decide to dedicate yourself to creative endeavors and surround
yourself with people who are creative, you very quickly learn how hard it is to
survive doing those kinds of things, not to mention make a living at them.

Something bad on starkiller: *happens* Kylo Ren and General Hux, tripping each other and yanking each other back: HOLY SHIT SUPREME LEADER YOU'LL NEVER BELIEVE WHAT (HUX/KYLO) DID
